If you check out the Modartt website (under the technology section) they walk you through a bunch of the physical modelling (such as sympathetic resonance between the strings, inharmonicity due to string rigidity, the hammer interaction with the strings, the interaction between the three strings that make up a single note on a piano, sound propogation and reverberation within a room) that's done in order to simulate a piano. This tiny installer size wouldn't be possible if they were manipulating samples.Īll the sounds coming out of the program are simulated using a mathematical model.
Actually the executable of Pianoteq doesn't include samples at all, hence the incredibly low installer size that's less than 50mb which includes every single piano model they offer.
